Determined to Finish the Race
I only have one area during my walk for which I have to go uphill. Only when I walk west from Carefree to Academy Boulevard am I faced with an incline. Now, I would like to say that it doesn't bother me at all. But I am always in a hurry to meet my ride, so I find that I have to diligently apply myself to a fast pace. I am often out of breath by the time I climb this incline to reach Academy. Going south from Academy to Constitution is either flat or downhill, so it's easy going. I feel a sense of accomplishment when I make it all the way to Constitution, but the real work is that first block of uphill climbing from West Carefree to Academy.
I am reminded that in our lives, we have uphill battles which we face. We might be challenged. We might be faced with discouragement and difficulties. We sometimes have struggles that seem impossible to overcome. But we must be determined to finish the race set before us. If we stay the course, and get to the top of the hill, we are assured of a glorious reward. We just need to remember we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. We just need to keep putting one foot ahead of the other. Don't worry If you feel you can’t do it alone, Jesus is walk alongside us. He will be our light in the darkness and our hope in our hopelessness. He will carry us upon his back when we can not take another step. But if we continue in faith to finish the race that has been set before us, our reward will far outweigh all the difficulties and struggles that we face during our journey through life.
Hebrews 12: 1-2: Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Jesus, thank you for what you have done for us. Thank you for your sweet assurance that you will help us with our uphill struggles. Thank you for encouraging us to finish the race. Help us to not lose heart but continue on our journey, no matter the hills we have to climb. Remind us of the eternal reward that you promise awaits us. In Jesus Name. Amen.
