Are we too busy to hear God?
“It is not God who is too busy to hear us, it is we who are too busy to hear God.” ― Jennifer Megan Varnadore
As I walk down Academy Boulevard, cars whiz beside me, often faster than the 45 miles an hour speed limit. Hurry, hurry, hurry. Life in the fast lane.
I remember the words to the Beatles song, “All the lonely people, where do they all come from?” It is never ending, the line of cars going down the Boulevard.
I feel a bit anxious knowing that if I should have a seizure and fall out into traffic or if a driver gets off course and swerves, I am only a few feet away from the oncoming cars. I spend a great deal of time praying for my safety and that of the drivers. I pray that they will not be distracted and that I will stay alert ….and to be extra cautious, I walk as far away from the curb as I can.
One time as I was walking, I wondered how many of the people speeding down Academy knew Jesus as their Lord and Savior. How many had assurance of eternal life? How many ever made the time to think about God during their busy lives and schedules? I realized that during most of my own busy days, I devote very little time to God. How can I even hear God when my life is filled with distractions and “busyness”? God revealed to me that I not only needed to pray for the souls of all the people driving frantically down the Academy Boulevard, but I also needed to spend more time with Him myself. I realized that God was giving me the opportunity to spend some quality time with Him during my walks. I praise God for the circumstance that have enabled me to devote more time to God, and that has given me a new perspective and new commitment in life.
James 4:8: Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you....KJV
Lord, I lift up all the people who drive down the busy streets of life. If they do not know you, I pray that they will come to salvation through your Son Jesus Christ. Give them safety as they drive. Lord, preserve their life until they come to a full knowledge of you. If Satan has lured them away, bring them back into the fold. Lord help me to spend more time with You. Thank you for helping me see how important it is and for helping me to find the time to do so. Help me to draw closer to you. Help me to calm my busy life in order to hear your voice better. I give you all the honor, glory and praise. In Jesus Name. Amen
