Look what I spotted on my walk along Academy Boulevard toward Constitution! In fact, I saw several of these little ant hills oozing out onto the sidewalk. It looked as if they had outgrown their house and just built on an addition. But I realized that if a hard rain or a clumsy foot should come along, in one moment it would destroy all their hard work.
One thing came to my mind.
I was reminded of the scripture verses in Matthew 7: 24-27 where the wise man built his house on a rock which survived the torrent of rain and the foolish man built his house on the sand which washed away. All is fine when our life goes along well, but when disaster strikes, do we have the foundation that will withstand the disasters that overwhelm us? If we are blessed with good health, what happens when we get that diagnosis of cancer or we fall down with an uncontrollable grand mal seizure? Do we have the foundation to survive? Have we built our life upon Jesus the Rock? Or have we built our lives on sands of this world which will perish? Can we rest in the assurance that God’s hand is upon us? Do we trust that he can use these things for our good? What happens when we lose our well paying job and can not make mortgage payments? What happens when we are a cause of an accident that takes a life? How can we survive a divorce after 25 years of marriage or finding out our spouse is cheating on us? What happens when our loved one passes away at a young age? At Crossfire, we meet people every single day who have stories such as these. Each one of us will most certainly face difficulties and trials at some point in our own lives. Have we built our life upon a foundation that will survive? We offer prayer to each and every person who walks through our door at Crossfire because we know that Jesus is the only answer. He is the foundation that will help them survive the trials that they face. But some turn instead to things of the world to dull their pain. Their foundation washes away as their life drains away with drugs, alcohol and other ephemera of the world. Only Jesus rebuilds. Only Jesus saves.
Luke 6:48 - He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. KJV
Lord, thank you for your strong foundation. When I face trails and difficulties, remind me, Lord, that you are in control. Help me to trust you more each day. I pray in Jesus name. Amen.
