Do we have a strong foundation build on Jesus Christ

Along my walk down Academy Boulevard, I saw numerous ant hills that appeared to have fallen out of sync. One of the thoughts that came to mind was if this little ant hill was destroyed and washed away, the ants would most surely rebuild. They wouldn’t give up. They would reconstruct their home. Do we have the tenacity to rebuild our lives when disaster strikes us? Do we believe the scripture Philippians 4: 13 that says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me?” If we fix our eyes upon Jesus, all else fades away, for we already know the end result. If we walk along the road of life with Jesus, He will help us finish the race set before us. If we have a lasting foundation, rebuilding our lives may be difficult but is surely possible with Jesus' help. He gives us hope and purpose. We know beyond a shadow of a doubt that God has His hand upon us and we are His.

We went to the movie Me Before You. Not to spoil the ending, but it had a very deep impact upon my thinking. The main character had a life changing accident which resulted in a spinal cord injury. As a result, He was mired in a world of darkness but was offered a glimpse of light. However, not The Light, the Everlasting Light, Jesus Christ. Not having Jesus in his life, he saw no hope or purpose to continue to live. He choose not to rebuild his life and in fact he chose to end his life. He had not built his life upon a strong foundation and his hope and purpose was washed away with sands of unbelief and discouragement. He did not want to be a bother to others and he could find no real purpose to continue on. Even the connection with family and loved ones was not enough to fill that place in his life that the accident had stolen. He was a man whose world had washed away in that one moment and he had nothing from which to draw upon to rebuild. A story that could have ended up triumphantly, ended up so very sadly.

We personally know another man who faced a similar tragedy in his life. In a moment of foolishness, he drove a car while under the impairment of alcohol. The result was also a spinal cord injury. For a period of time after this tragedy, he saw only darkness and despair. But in the midst of his suffering, he found Jesus Christ. Jesus became his Light in the Darkness. Through Jesus and the people who loved and encouraged him, he found purpose and hope. Not that his life became instantly easier, but Jesus gave him a reason to continue to live. He has rebuilt his life upon a stronger foundation, Jesus Christ. He also has a mission and purpose now to warn youth about the dangers of drinking and driving.

God does not cause bad things to happen to people but He can use them for their good and for His honor and glory.

If we face trials and tribulations, will we have a strong foundation built on Jesus Christ in order to rebuild our lives?

Isaiah 28:16 - Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner [stone], a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. KJV

Dear Lord, thank you for the strong foundation to help me in times of distress and trouble. Your promises are true. Help me to walk with strong faith and trust in You. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen.
