Who do you put first in your life? What consumes your time, your energy and your focus? It is very difficult to focus on God and things of the Spirit, if things of the flesh draw and lure us. It says in Romans 8:5:
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit Satan uses many ways to take our eyes off Jesus. It might be the lure of money, or alcohol, drugs. Satan wants is to focus on things of the flesh. Once I became addicted to Christian romance novels to the exclusion of reading my Bible. I put them before God’s Word. We knew a friend that became addicted to working out, putting it before God. It might be an addiction to playing sports, watching television, playing video games, anything that we put before our God
It is not that any of these things are bad in themselves. It is the lure of Satan to take our focus off of God and consume us with things of the flesh that is the problem.
Is it not ironic that this little bottle of Fireball should display a figure of Satan? It was perhaps someone driven to drink and drive and then throw it out the window. Or perhaps between bus rides, imbibing in a short snort. Or someone walking with only a few dollars in their pocket to buy a little booze.
Jesus is the only one who truly satisfies and fills us when we are empty: Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6 Who do we put first in our lives? Jesus said in Matthew 4:10: “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’”
